From a very early age, Jeff has been working with wood, having grown up learning from his grandfather who built custom homes. This ignited his passion for building, and for 35+ years, Jeff was a general contractor along California’s Orange County coast, specializing in building custom homes and residential remodels.
Jeff and Cheryl designed, and he built, the home of their dreams. Jeff’s craftsmanship and artisan skills were evident throughout the residence. Next, he embarked on a completely new woodworking challenge, building by hand a gorgeous wooden boat. The end result was the award-winning “On the Job II” being featured in Wooden Boat magazine.
Jeff and Cheryl’s joint discovery of pickleball, and the fun sense of community that comes with the sport, became apparent when they moved to the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, CA. His first pickleball paddle creation was for a MCC Pickleball Pink Week fundraising auction. Cheryl asked Jeff to build a “simple” wooden pickleball paddle, made from a “nice” wood, for the pickleball auction. Instead, and as usual, the artist in Jeff created something much more, elevating the ordinary pickleball paddle to an exquisite work of art.
The auction was such a success, Jeff and Cheryl were inspired to work together again on this timely, exciting opportunity. They established CH Pickleball Art, offering Jeff’s uniquely designed, 100% handcrafted pickleball paddles–for display, not play. Recognizing Jeff’s skills as a designer and artist, and not just as a builder, Cheryl is utilizing her experience in business, marketing and software to launch and manage CH Pickleball Art. They met almost 40 years ago when Jeff remodeled her boss’s home and are excited to be working together on another new artistic adventure, offering Jeff’s uniquely designed pickleball paddles….for gifts, awards and charcuterie boards.
